Upcoming AIHS Trade/Study Missions:

Vancouver, Canada
     (September 24-October 1, 2010)

Paris, France
     (April 29-May 6, 2011)

Each unique program offers the opportunity to:

Learn in a Collegial Atmosphere. AIHS trade/study mission attendance is by invitation only, providing delegates a collegial atmosphere of learning with the highest-level officers of health organizations. Each mission delegation is limited to 50 participants, which allows delegates to be on a first-name basis with their peers by the end of the week.

Tour Health Facilities. Each mission includes tours of local health facilities, such as public or private hospitals, surgicenters, and clinics.

Understand the Host Country's Health System, Talk With Their Leaders. Most of the countries visited by AIHS trade/study missions comprise both public and private system elements. Delegates have the opportunity to obtain comprehensive knowledge of the inner workings of the system and talk to the leaders about the challenges they face. Delegates are able to take home beneficial information to apply new and creative ideas within their own organizations.

Explore Each Country's Unique Culture. The delegation is also invited to attend optional tours, discovering some of the historical and national heritage that defines the health system. For instance, an understanding of Maori culture in New Zealand helps delegates look at how the health system's attitude of egalitarian healthcare has developed.

Bring Your Learnings Back Home. Every country visited by the Academy offers valuable lessons that can be applied to U.S. organizations. Delegates of previous AIHS missions have found both pearls of wisdom for changing processes within their own hospitals, health plans or other entity and new ideas for expanding services or adding value for their clients, patients and members.

Learning about the culture, problems and solutions of another country's health care system is always stimulating, mind-expanding and fun. The Academy lined up an outstanding panel of experts in Argentina and also an excellent group of delegates from the USA. I hope to go again.
